Dear potential participant,

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A RESEARCH PROJECT

Description

We are currently carrying out the research titled “Positive Psychology in Consumer Behavior: Finance and Self-Discrepancy”, which is being undertaken as part of a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. The purpose of this research study is to explore the relationship between consumer’s internal conflicts, product preferences, and well-being. This project is under the supervision of Professor Catherine Prentice, Doctor Jenny Wang, and Doctor Hoang Sinh Nguyen.

On behalf of the research team, we would like to invite you to be part of a study into the effect of your internal dissonances, product preferences, and well-being. The different areas to be examined are your religious affiliations, financial self-conceptions, social identity, and their influences on your product selections and, subsequently, well-being.

Your participation will involve the completion of an online questionnaire that will take approximately 20 minutes of your time.  Your participation in this project is entirely voluntary. Expected benefits

However, it may help marketers devise more ethical marketing practices that consider the psychological impacts of internal conflicts between your actual self and your aspirations or your obligations in the domains of religion, finance, and bicultural identity. On broader scales, policymakers can utilize the findings to develop guidelines that protect consumers from potentially exploitative marketing practices targeting their beliefs, hopes, responsibilities, and associated self-discrepancies.

Risk

In participating in the questionnaire, there are minimal psychological risks, such as sadness, anxiety, and disappointment.

Privacy and confidentiality

All comments and responses are confidential unless required by law.

The names of individual persons are not required in any of the responses.

The data collected during this project may be made available for future research purposes. Specifically, The data will be shared in a non-identifiable form, meaning that any identifying information will be removed before the data is shared with other researchers. The data may be used for similar projects or broader research purposes within the field of consumer behaviors and psychology.

Any data collected as a part of this project will be stored securely, as per University of Southern Queensland’s Research Data and Primary Materials Management Procedure.
