This is a study about Australian teachers. You are being invited because you left teaching but have since returned.
We invite you to participate in a research project that seeks to understand more about teachers who return to the profession. We aim to collect diverse and meaningful insights that we hope will inform Universities, Initial Teacher Education programs, Government, Schools, Principals, and other stakeholders interested in teacher retention and attrition.
You can provide valuable and unique perspectives.
This project includes 1. Completion of a survey and 2. An option to participate in an online survey.
Part One: Survey
Your participation in this project is via an Online Survey which is estimated to take up to 15 minutes. Questions consist of short answer, scale or tick responses for your convenience.
This survey is voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time. The data will be anonymous and your confidentiality will be protected.
Part Two: Interview (if you choose to be interviewed)
At the end of the survey, you will be invited to provide your consent to participate in a 30-minute follow-up interview and contact details to arrange this should you wish to take part.
You can just complete the survey and not volunteer for an interview.
What will happen to the survey/interview data?
Data will be treated as confidential and will only be used for the purpose of this research project. Collected information will be kept in a secure location at Federation University and will follow the university Research Data Management Procedure.
How will data be stored?
Storage of the data collected will adhere to Federation University regulations and will be kept and stored electronically for at least 5 years in password-protected storage.
How will the results of the research be published?
A summary report of information collected through the survey will be available on request by participants. Results will be published in academic peer-reviewed journals; and/or presentations at conferences, or a book.
How do I give consent?
Completion of the Survey (Part One) and hitting SUBMIT will be evidence of your consent to participate in the survey.
You can provide consent for the interview (Part 2) in the final question of the survey, along with your contact details (name and email).
What if I change my mind during or after the study?
You may withdraw from the survey or the interview at any time and request that any data collected be deleted from the project. However, it may not be possible to withdraw from the study after the data has been collated and de-identified.
Are there any risks involved?
We anticipate that the risk to participants is low. However, while this survey is considered to pose minimal risk to you the participant, completing the survey or interview may prompt unexpected emotions, including unpleasant memories, anxiety and/or discomfort for you. If so, you are directed to access the National Lifeline telephone counselling service on 131114; Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636; your GP and/or the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
